Fourtown Lake Route (Easy to Moderate)

fourtown-routeThe Fourtown Route is an easy/moderate route that features some of the most beautiful campsites in the wilderness. The route travels through an area of the wilderness that has not been altered by the major natural events of the past decade (blowdowns or significant fires). The route starts at the site of the old Chainsaw Sisters Saloon near Mudro Lake. Leaving Mudro Lake the route heads northeast to a chain of scenic lakes including: Sandpit, Tin Can Mike, and Horse Lakes, before bending to the west toward Fourtown Lake.  After spending a couple of days enjoying all that Fourtown Lake offers, this route will head south through the Three Dragons portages before returning to Mudro Lake.  This route also offers a day trip opportunity to travel the Horse River to the famous lower Basswood Falls located on the Canadian border.
