Wilderness Fire Tour (Challenging)

wilderness-fire-tourThe Boundary Waters Experience invites you to enjoy a spectacular and rare treat! Join us with a group of your family and friends on a magnificent paddle through the heart of the Pagami Creek Fire zone in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Lightening ignited the Pagami Creek Fire in August of 2011, which proceeded to burn over 93,000 wilderness acres – changing the wilderness composition forever.

This breathtaking six-day route ventures through a variety of wilderness lakes, rivers, portages and ecological events. The fifty-mile journey begins on Moose Lake and travels northeast into Newfound Lake, before portaging east into Ensign Lake and a chain of small lakes leading into scenic Thomas Lake. From Thomas Lake you will portage into the notorious fishing lake – Kiana, then to the north side of Lake Insula for a day of rest and relaxation.

Your group then gears up for the main event, a twelve-mile paddle through the Pagami Creek Burn Zone (South Insula Lake, Hudson Lake, North Kawishiwi River, Lake Four, Lake Three and Lake Two). Participants will reflect on the stark contrast of lush, untouched wilderness to the north and blackened shores to the south. They will also revel in the natural life cycle around them – life from death, beauty from ashes. The final days take advantage of beautiful unaffected campsites on our journey to the Lake One landing.

All Boundary Waters Experience (BWX) trips are fully outfitted and facilitated by our highly skilled Trail Guides. Programing on all BWX trips encourages the group to engage with nature, grow in faith, and share with one another. All people, families, groups, ages, and faith traditions are welcome. We can accommodate groups of up to eight people.
