Market your trips on Facebook

The BWX has created a Facebook Group page to help you fill your trips with participants. Please join this group, and then invite the people that you have in mind to come on the trip to join as well. Group members can view photos and videos from the BWX, read and share memories of campers and staff, and invite their friends to the group too. Our hope is that interest and excitement about participating will be spread, making your job of filling the trips easier.

Important Dates to Remember

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I bring shampoo to wash up?

The Boundary Waters Experience (BWX) does not allow shampoo or soap of any kind (including biodegradable) because they are harmful to the water and soil.  There simply is not enough soil on the ground to properly absorb these soaps. Campers will have the opportunity to swim regularly.

Can I bring my own food to camp?

Feel free to snack on your own food during your trip up to the BWX.  However, we ask that you leave your leftovers in your car until you return from the woods.  We provide nutritious and great tasting food for your wilderness adventure.  We accommodate food allergies if they are brought to our attention prior to the camper’s arrival (lactose intolerance, vegetarian, gluten intolerance, allergies, etc.).  Please let your leaders know of any food issues that you have and indicate allergies on the BWX Medical Consent & Release Form.

I don’t have all the gear on the packing list. What should I do?

We suggest that you borrow gear/clothing from family or friends.  You can also go to a local thrift store to find many clothing options (polyester/polypropylene).  Target, Wal-Mart, Old Navy, etc. carry this type of clothing well.  The BWX does have some gear that we are able to loan out.

What can I do to avoid mosquitoes? Is bug spray okay?

Mosquitoes are a fact of life in Minnesota. The best way to repel them is by using long-sleeved shirts and fleece. Bug repellent is flammable and can be harmful to place on certain types of clothing. If you do bring bug repellent, please make sure it has no more than 7% DEET and is not in an aerosol container.

What do I do with my medications?

All medications must be noted on our Medical Consent & Release Form provided.  Once you arrive at our base camp all medications will be collected by your BWX Trail Guide and administered appropriately.  Please have all medications in their original containers. Medications will be returned prior to leaving for home.
